In this article, we have explained in detail in our article why you need to book a tour for northern lights.
Our examples are all about Swedish Lapland, our base.
While many people traveling to northern countries admire this fascinating geography, one of the main purposes of almost everyone who visits here is to see the northern light.
Probably the most extraordinary natural phenomenon you will see in your life is the northern lights.
Seeing the northern lights depends on many factors and unfortunately, it is not as easy as seeing it in photos and videos.
The Northern Lights guides search for the weather conditions of the day with many details before going on tour. They check the changing weather conditions, cloud free regions, precipitation conditions in the region.
Unfortunately, this is not an easy task because the weather in northern countries may change every 5 minutes.
Even this detailed work done during the day is an important task in itself.
Sometimes it is possible to see the northern lights that night thanks to the cloudless area we find in a very remote area, while the 100 kilometers around you are covered with clouds or when it rains / snows.
Avoiding cloudless region and precipitation is one of the most important factors to see the northern lights.
If you did not drive in northern countries, we would like to point out that it is quite dangerous especially in storms under snowfall.
While there is sometimes heavy rainfall in northern Sweden, it is quite normal for us to cross the Norwegian border and travel 200 kilometers to the Norwegian fjords and find the cloudless area.
These long driving distances and long hours outside are one of the major factors that increase our chances to see the northern lights in our tours.
In our northern lights tours, we go to different regions every night and make our camp fire in the wilds of the arctic.
This experience, which you will have around the campfire in the middle of nowhere (especially under the northern lights) is probably one of the most special moments of your life.
Not everyone is a professional photographer or everyone has a professional camera with them.
Even for professional photographers, it is not easy to take the pictures of the northern lights.
On these tours, our professional guides take your photos and videos during the night and send them all to you.
You should taste reindeer if you come to Lapland.
All our northern lights tour starts with dinner around the campfire in our center in Abisko.
In the meantime, you get information about the region and the northern lights. As your guide prepares dinner, you meet other people from all over the world.
We are quite assertive about the dinner we prepared. We live a real Lapland experience in a beautiful concept we call wild dining dinner and make a good start before our long night tour.
Sometimes, if there is no chance to see northern light in storm (such as snowfall, rain) affecting a very large area, we cancel our tour 3 nights in advance.
In this way, we both provide refunds and do not steal anyone’s time.
In the Swedish Lapland where we are located, the KP number does not matter much because we are completely below the aurora oval, so you can watch a beautiful northern light show even at night when the KP number is low.
