Kiruna is the northernmost city in Sweden and is located in the state of Norbotten. One of the most popular tourism centers in Swedish Lapland, Kiruna is especially popular during the winter months for its beautiful, pristine forests, rare native wildlife and, of course, the Northern Lights.
We recommend that you stay in Kiruna a minimum of 4 nights to make sure that you will see the Aurora Borealis and your trip was worth it. Besides the Aurora, there are many activities you can do in Kiruna, especially in winter: Things to do in Kiruna.
If you are looking for a chalet-style rooms, you can stay in Camp Ripan, breakfast and SPA are amazing. Other good options are Hotel Scandic, Arctic Eden or Hotel Bishops Arms.
If you are looking for a budget accommodations your options are Spis, STF Kiruna or Samegarden.
Surrounded by mountain nature, the family-owned Camp Ripan is a 10-minute walk from Kiruna city centre. It offers free WiFi, in-room flat-screen TVs and traditional, seasonal Swedish and Sami food. Parking is free on site.
Spread across 3 buildings, Ripan’s cosy, chalet-style rooms have private entrances and bathrooms with showers. Many offer kitchenettes and convenient private ski storage.
Restaurant Ripan features local Nordic ingredients including reindeer and fish.
The Aurora Spa can be accessed for a surcharge. Ski tracks and hiking trails are right next door. Snowmobiling, ice fishing and dog sledding are popular in winter. Summer leisure options include horse riding, guided city tours and hiking.
Camp Ripan is certified as an environmentally friendly hotel.
Situated in Kiruna and within 5.7 km of Kiruna Train Station, Scandic Kiruna has a bar, non-smoking rooms, and free WiFi throughout the property. Featuring a restaurant, the property also has free bikes, as well as a fitness centre and a sauna. The hotel features family rooms.

Located in the city centre of Kiruna, this stylish hotel offers a traditional British pub and modern rooms with a flat-screen TV and free WiFi. Kiruna Airport is 10 minutes’ drive away.
Each cosy room at Hotel Bishops Arms Kiruna has a fresh bathroom with shower. Many rooms have wooden floors and Persian rugs.
Meals and drinks are served in the living room at The Bishops Arms pub. Guests can also enjoy a daily breakfast and a pub quiz each Monday night.
Staff will gladly recommend restaurants and nearby attractions. The property is located next to a shopping mall, and the LKAB Visitor Centre is just 1.7 km away.
SPiS Hotel & Hostel is just 150 m from Kiruna’s main street, Föreningsgatan. It provides a restaurant, free WiFi and a free sauna and relaxation area.
All hotel rooms have a flat-screen TV, a fully-equipped shared kitchen and shared bathroom facilities located on each floor. Guests have free access to shared laundry facilities.

Located by Mount Luossavaara, Malmfältens Folkhögskola offers free parking and brightly decorated rooms with free WiFi and a TV. All guests have access to a shared kitchen and lounge.
All rooms at have a work desk and wardrobe. Rooms have either a private bathroom with toilet and shower or a private toilet and shared shower facilities.
With its closeness to nature, Malmfältens Folkhögskola is an ideal starting point for hiking, jogging and cross-country skiing. Relaxation options include a sauna.
A breakfast buffet is served daily, while lunch is served from Monday until Friday. Guests also have access to a communal kitchen.
Hotell Samegård is located in central Kiruna. Free Wi-Fi access is available, as well as rooms with a flat-screen TV. Kiruna Train Station is an 8-minute walk away.
