Abisko is located in the northwest of Sweden, between Norway’s Narvik city and Kiruna city in Swedish Lapland. The village, which is a part of the Kiruna Municipality, is on average 30 kilometers to the Norwegian border.
Although Abisko has a small population, there are plenty of options for accommodations at any budget and comfort level.
The easiest way to get to Abisko is by flying into Kiruna Airport, which is the closest airport to Abisko, and then traveling by bus, train, or taxi to Abisko.
SAS and Norwegian operate flights to Kiruna Airport from Stockholm. From Kiruna Airport, take a bus or taxi to the Kiruna train station. The journey takes approximately 10-15 minutes. Take a train from Kiruna to Abisko. The train ride takes about an hour and passes through some of the most beautiful landscapes in Sweden.
We recommend that you stay in Abisko a minimum of 4 nights to make sure that you will see the Aurora Borealis and your trip was worth it. Besides the Aurora, there are many activities you can do in Abisko, especially in winter: What to do in Abisko.
If you want, you can stay in one of the hotel, hostel or chalet options of STF Turiststation in Abisko National Park, or you can choose Abisko Mountain Lodge in the village. During our tour, we will have dinner in Abisko Mountain Lodge, the best restaurants in our region.
If you are looking for a budget accommodations your options are Abisko Guesthouse or Abisko Net.

This hotel is in Abisko, just 2 minutes’ walk from Abisko Östra Train Station. Abisko Mountain Lodge’s in-house restaurant Brasserie Fjällköket has a seasonal menu based on locally sourced ingredients. 2 km away from us you can find Abisko national park and the Aurora Sky Station. From Abisko Mountain Lodge you have several different trails you can do day hikes
Rooms at Abisko Mountain Lodge include free WiFi and a private bathroom with shower. Cottages feature a kitchenette and private toilet. The shared shower facilities are located in the sauna and relaxation area, 30 m from the cottages.
In the lounge bar you can sit and relax in front of the fireplace.
This property is in Abisko National Park, 700 m from Lake Torneträsk. Hotel rooms, budget rooms as well as self-catering cottages are all offered here. On-site services include Lapland cuisine and free sauna access. Abisko Railway Station is 5 minutes’ walk away.
The spacious cottages at STF Abisko Turiststation feature 2 bedrooms and a combined living room and kitchen. Guest rooms have either a private bathroom or shared facilities.
Abisko STF’s restaurant offers panoramic views of Lake Torneträsk and the surrounding mountains. The breakfast buffet includes organic options.
The Kungsleden hiking route runs past Abisko Turiststation. Outddor equipment (not bicycles) are available for rent on site. Pre booking on abisko.butik@stfturist.se is needed.
Abisko net Hostel & Huskies is situated in Abisko and features a terrace and mountain views. The accommodation offers a shared kitchen, a tour desk, luggage storage and free WiFi.
All rooms have access too shared bathrooms, fitted with a shower and hairdryer. They also include a seating area.
A sauna is available, and guests can book dogsledding and northern light tours at the property, as well as other winter activities. The area is popular for hiking and skiing, and ski equipment is available for rent at Abisko net Hostel & Huskies.
The nearest airport is Kiruna Airport, 105 km from the hostel, and a paid airport shuttle service is offered.
