Sustainability Policy

Lights of Vikings has been recognized by Tripadvisor as a 2021 and 2022 Travelers’ Choice Award Winner for Outdoor Activities. We have been awarded the 5th best tour in the world and number 1 in Abisko on outdoor activities.

At Lights of Vikings, we are dedicated to providing unforgettable Northern Lights tours in Swedish Lapland while maintaining a strong commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainability. We understand that our operations impact the delicate Arctic environment and recognize our responsibility to minimize that impact. This Sustainability Policy outlines our commitment to sustainable practices and responsible tourism.

Our Environmental Responsibility. We will continually assess and minimize our environmental footprint by:

  • Ensuring our transportation vehicles meet or exceed local emission standards.
  • Reducing energy consumption wherever possible.
  • Minimizing waste production and promoting recycling among employees and guests.
  • Conserving water resources and reducing water wastage.
  • Using eco-labeled products and sourcing local, sustainable materials whenever possible.
  • Avoiding the use of single-use plastic products wherever possible.
  • Providing reusable alternatives for guests and staff.
  • Equipping our devices with rechargeable batteries instead of single-use ones to reduce waste.

Supporting Local Communities. We will actively engage with and support the local communities of Swedish Lapland by:

  • Collaborating with local suppliers and businesses to promote economic growth.
  • Supporting cultural and heritage preservation initiatives.

Promotion of Sustainable Tourism Practices. We actively promote sustainable tourism by:

  • Limiting the size of tour groups to ensure minimal impact on local communities, wildlife, and nature.
  • Educating our guests about the importance of respectful and responsible behavior while in the Arctic environment.
  • Encouraging off-peak and shoulder-season travel to reduce overcrowding and pressure on natural resources.

Biodiversity Protection. We will take active measures to protect the Arctic’s unique biodiversity by:

  • Following guidelines to avoid disturbing wildlife and fragile ecosystems.
  • Supporting conservation initiatives and engaging in reforestation projects.

Education and Awareness. We will educate our guests and staff about the significance of the Arctic ecosystem and the importance of sustainable travel by:

  • Offering educational materials to guests during our tours.
  • Training our staff to become sustainability ambassadors and provide guests with information on eco-friendly practices.
  • Promoting responsible tourism guidelines to minimize our impact on local flora and fauna.

Carbon Offset and Collaboration with Viskogen. We are proud to collaborate with Viskogen, a leading tree-planting organization, to compensate for our carbon footprint by:

  • Calculating our carbon emissions and investing in tree-planting projects that help sequester carbon and restore ecosystems.
  • Regularly monitoring and reporting on our carbon offset efforts to ensure transparency and accountability.

Continuous Improvement. We are committed to regular evaluation and improvement of our sustainability efforts by:

  • Adhering to all local, national, and international environmental laws and regulations.
  • Setting clear and measurable sustainability goals.
  • Conducting regular audits to assess our progress.
  • Actively seeking feedback from guests, staff, and local communities.

At Lights of Vikings, we believe that responsible tourism in Swedish Lapland is not just a choice but a duty. By embracing sustainable practices, we aim to protect the Arctic environment, support local communities, and educate our guests about the importance of preserving this unique region for generations to come. We invite all our guests to join us in this journey towards a more sustainable future.
