Here at Lights of Vikings we are based in two of the best Northern Lights destinations in the world: Abisko, and Kiruna. Sweden is an ideal location for viewing the Northern Lights due to its dry climate during the winter months and its lack crowds. We are located in one of Europe’s last untouched wilderness areas, away from the hectic atmosphere of major cities, allowing us to enjoy the Northern Lights in a completely unique way.
Our guides team is made up of people from all over the world. We’re all focused with the northern lights, but each of us has our own unique strengths that can help you get the most out of your northern lights experience.
We take great pride in our concept of the longest northern lights tour, offering a full Northern Lights experience in a 6 to 10 hour tour.
After travelling to many different Northern Lights destinations around the world, we decided to create our own Northern Lights tour based on the best experiences we had.
We operate our tours in a large area, all guests staying in Kiruna, Björkliden and Abisko in Sweden and Narvik in Norway can join our tours.
To start out, we have dinner in Abisko Mountain Lodge. For dinner, you can order a traditional reindeer dish, the most important food in the region. We also have vegetarian options for those who want them.
Our guides gives you information about Lapland during dinner. You will learn about the history of the region, the culture, and the science and magic of the Northern Lights. After the traditional dinner, we get in our private car together. On this trip, both your driver and your professional photographer guide will accompany you.
Your guide makes a day plan according to the weather conditions of that day. Our evening Northern Lights tours depart according to this plan. Depending on the weather conditions (especially the clouds), a different destination is chosen that night. Each night, we look at all the data to make sure the region we visit will give you the best chance to see the aurora.
Observing the northern lights around the lake, featuring the magnificent nature of Abisko, is an amazing experience. But there is also the possibility of going to Kiruna and further away, or crossing the border to the Norwegian fjords, depending on the night.
It is not important for us to drive long distances. We work hard to find areas with no clouds. If there is snow or rain affecting a large area, we cancel our tours on all nights where we have no chance.
When we reach the region we have selected to visit, we make our campfire in the wilderness and prepare hot drinks for you to cozy up with.
During the night, we will take many photos of you with the Northern Lights, and we will send these unforgettable moments to your mail within a few days.
Our tours usually end after midnight. Depending on the distance to be traveled, your tour will take between 6 and 10 hours. This tour has many advantages related to the wonderful experiences you will have at the Arctic Circle. As you watch the lights dance, we will be immortalizing your beautiful memories with photos with the Northern Lights. Your guide takes a lot of photos and all of them are included in your tour.
Unfortunately, there aren’t many transportation options in Swedish Lapland, but we offer transfer options in a wide area such as Kiruna, Björkliden and Abisko on our tours.
As you are traveling to see the lights, you will stay comfortable on the heated bus on our tour. No matter how cold the night is, we give you snowsuits before your tour starts and we offer hot drinks during the night. The weather is Swedish Lapland is all about preparation, and we are prepared for all types of weather so that you are comfortable and warm the whole time.
At Lights of Vikings, we are dedicated to providing unforgettable Northern Lights tours in Swedish Lapland while maintaining a strong commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainability. We understand that our operations impact the delicate Arctic environment and recognize our responsibility to minimize that impact. Our Sustainability Policy outlines our commitment to sustainable practices and responsible tourism.
